Umaid Bhawan Jaipur was one of the last royal constructions in Rajasthan. A splendid example of Indo-colonial and art deco style of the 1930s, the construction of this palace is unique as there is no use of cement or mortar. Carved stones have been conjoined by a unique technique of interlocking positive and negative pieces. Named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, this palace is one of the world's largest private residence, with 347 rooms. Umaid Bhawan Palace was called Chittar Palace during its construction owing to its location Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur. Maharaja Umaid Singh, was an admirer of western lifestyles, the reflection of which can be seen in the architecture. Now a part of the Taj Hotels, this Umaid Bhawan Palace is a delight for the visitors. The palace has been divided into three parts; in one part, functions a hotel, in the second, a museum and the third house belongs to the royal family. The main attractions of the palace include the Throne Room which has the fascinating Ramayana murals. A wood-paneled library, indoor swimming pool, a billiards room, marble squash courts, etc., are some places to relish. This museum in Jodhpur is an architectural marvel and displays the elite range of items belonging to the Maharaja and the imperial family like clocks, glass, porcelain, furniture, crockery, cutler and weapons, stuffed leopards, clocks, etc. Umaid Bhawan also holds photos and manuscripts, old furniture, medals and a huge banner presented by Queen Victoria. Built in the typical Rajputana style, this ancient building stands as a grand palace, featuring gardens, palace halls, balconies, terraces and more
